Purpose

The purpose of the Community Automated External Defibrillator (AED) program is to distribute AED devices and provide life-saving education to organizations that host large numbers of lives. Eleven organizations in the Greater Austin area will receive a Heart Hospital of Austin sponsored AED. Recipient organizations must agree to install a wall-mounted AED in a location that is highly visible and easily accessible to the general population of the organization. Also, each organization must commit to sending key staff members to attend annual education regarding the use of the device and CPR certification.

Application Submission Information

Applications will consist of the Community AED Program Application Information Sheet, a cover letter (on organization letterhead) no more than two pages in length, and completed Commitment Form. Applications must be received by October 12, 2012. Recipients will receive notification by Friday, November 2, 2012.

Evaluation/Selection Process

The evaluation/selection committee will be responsible for examining, analyzing, ranking, and selecting eleven organizations, from within the Greater Austin area, to receive a Heart Hospital of Austin sponsored AED to place in their respective locations.

Selections will be made based on content, completeness and quality of the application cover letter and the application information sheet submitted by the applying organization. In addition, the following criteria will be used in the evaluation process:


  • Average volume of people within the organization
  • Organization’s proximity to Heart Hospital of Austin (all applicants must be located in Greater Austin area) 
  • Willingness to have key staff members trained annually for three successive years 
  • The organization’s mission 
  • Described mounting location of the unit 
  • Defined plan to extend life-saving knowledge to others within the organization 
  • Detail of application responses 
  • Neatness of application

Applications will be reviewed and ranked in order to select the eleven organizations that will receive a Heart Hospital of Austin sponsored AED.
